Le château de Vatika est mentionné pour la première fois dans la Chronique de Morée, qui relate la concession de la région par Guillaume II de Villehardouin à des nobles de Monemvasia. En 1262, la région passa sous domination byzantine, avant d'alterner entre les Vénitiens et les Ottomans jusqu'au début de la guerre d'indépendance grecque en 1821.

Η μονή είναι κτισμένη στη πλαγιά ενός λόφου έξω από τη Νεμέα και αποτελεί κτιριακό συγκρότημα σε διάφορα επίπεδα που ακολουθούν τη διαμόρφωση του βράχου. Σώζονται τοιχογραφίες και βυζαντινά γλυπτά εντοιχισμένα Καθολικό.
