Το ιερό της τοπικής θεότητας, που την ονόμαζαν Δέσποινα, είναι ένα από τα σημαντικότερα Ιερά της αρχαίας Αρκαδίας. Ήκμασε μέχρι το τέλος των ρωμαϊκών χρόνων.
Οι ανασκαφές έγιναν τον περασμένο αιώνα από την Αρχαιολογική Εταιρεία, κυρίως από τον Κωνσταντίνο Κουρουνιώτη. Τότε ιδρύθηκε και το μικρό τοπικό Μουσείο στην ίδια θέση.
Τα σημαντικότερα μνημεία του Αρχαιολογικού χώρου είναι:
1) Ο Ναός της Δέσποινας
2) Το Μέγαρο (Βωμός)
3) Η Μεγάλη Στοά και οι Βωμοί
4) Η Αρχαία Κρήνη-Δεξαμενή.

Sanctuary of Despoina at Lykosoura, Arcadia
The sanctuary of the local deity Despoina, constitutes one of the most important sacred places of Ancient Arcadia. Its acme lasted until the end of the Roman period.
Excavations were conducted in the last century by the Greek Archaeological Society under the direction of Konstantinos Kourouniotis. The small e211em02.txt local museum g211em02.txt on the site was also founded at that time.
The most important monuments of the site are:
1) The Temple of Despoina,
2) The Megaron (Altar),
3) The large Stoa and the altars,
4) The ancient fountain-cistern.
