The Museum of Contemporary Art of the Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation is located in Chora, Andros, and was the first Museum of Contemporary Art in Greece. Its creation was initially linked to the need to house and present the works of the Andriot sculptor Michalis Tombros. The collection was subsequently enriched with works from the personal collection of Basil and Elise Goulandris. The museum later acquired the New Wing, which has hosted works by leading artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, including Matisse, Kandinsky, Balthus, Giacometti, Klee, Chagall, de Chirico, Rodin, Picasso, Braque, Miró and Toulouse-Lautrec. The museum plays an important role in promoting both Greek and international modern and contemporary art through temporary exhibitions and cultural activities.
