The Sarakatsani Folklore Museum is a unique cultural institution dedicated exclusively to the history and traditions of the Sarakatsani people. It was established with the aim of preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of one of Greece’s most significant nomadic populations. The museum’s collections vividly present the everyday life of the Sarakatsani, highlighting their occupations, customs, and traditional way of life. Visitors can explore faithful reconstructions of traditional huts, cheese-making facilities, and other characteristic elements of their nomadic pastoral lifestyle, as well as authentic objects used in everyday life. A special place in the exhibitions is occupied by traditional costumes, woven textiles, jewelry, household utensils, tools, and livestock equipment, all of which reflect the craftsmanship and aesthetic values of the Sarakatsani people. Rich photographic and archival material also sheds light on important aspects of their social and family life, as well as the seasonal migrations that shaped their community.
