The Byzantine Museum of Veroia is housed in the restored Markos Mill, located in the traditional Kyriotissa district. It consists of three floors, each covering 720 square meters, with distinct sections of the permanent exhibition on every level. The collection includes portable icons, frescoes, mosaics, manuscripts, works of pottery and minor arts, coins, wood carvings, funerary finds, architectural sculptures, and marble inscriptions. The museum aims to connect traditional values with active community engagement, offering a regional perspective that encompasses the cultural heritage of Central and Western Macedonia, complementing the collections of Thessaloniki. Key areas of study include Constantinople, representing the production of the center; Thessaloniki, reflecting the character of a major metropolitan capital; and Kastoria, as a parallel example of a provincial city. Aspects of this “common language” are illustrated through the monuments of Veroia, spanning the long history of Byzantium and the post-Byzantine period, particularly through painting—an art form richly represented in the region.
