Vatika Castle is first mentioned in the Chronicle of the Morea, which records the granting of the area by William II Villehardouin to the nobles of Monemvasia. In 1262, the region came under Byzantine rule and later alternated between Venetian and Ottoman control until the outbreak of the Greek War of Independence in 1821.

The Archaeological Museum of Andros is located in Kairis Square, in Chora of Andros. The museum’s exhibition mainly presents archaeological finds from the ancient settlement of Zagora, one of the most important archaeological sites on Andros. The exhibits date mainly from the Geometric period (900–700 BC) and the Archaic period (700–480 BC). Of particular interest are the models of ancient Zagora, which help visitors understand the layout of the city, its fortifications, houses and sanctuary. The museum also displays one of the copies of Rigas Feraios’ Map of Greece.
