In the reception hall of the Gavras Tower mansion, in the “Anogi”, a remarkable collection of sculptures, statues and reliefs is displayed, covering a long chronological period, from the Archaic period and the 6th century BC to the Roman period and the 2nd century AD. Most of the exhibits are surface finds from the three ancient cities of Amorgos: Aigiali, Arkesini and Minoa. In a special display case, representative examples of minor arts are exhibited, originating from the excavations at Minoa and dating from the 8th century BC to the 3rd century AD. In the “Courtyard”, carved and inscribed stone slabs dating from the Archaic period, architectural elements, as well as headless statue torsos from the Roman period are displayed. In the “Kato(g)i”, in the courtyard area, the exhibition mainly consists of material originating from surface archaeological finds. The Prehistoric Period Hall presents finds that bear witness to the long-standing human presence on Amorgos. The collection covers a long chronological period, from the Late Neolithic period, during the 4th millennium BC, to the Early Bronze Age, during the 3rd millennium BC, and the Late Bronze Age, with characteristic finds dating from the 13th and 12th centuries BC.
