The “Pasha Museum” is located in the outer enclosure of the Ottoman Fortress of Pylos (Niokastro), in the area where the settlement of the Castle developed. It is a long, two-part hall dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. It is an old stone building with solid masonry. The name attributed to the building derives from Ibrahim Pasha, who ruled the Castle from 1816 until 1828, the year when Niokastro was liberated by the French General Maison. In modern history, there are sources indicating that the Pasha building was used as a prison during the German and Italian occupation. After its renovation in 2010, the Pasha Museum was suitably adapted to host the exhibition “Sunken Journeys, Human Explorations: Significant Traces in the Seas of the Peloponnese” and constitutes the first museum of underwater archaeological findings exhibition in Greece.
