Damos is an archaeological area of Kalymnos, located north of the main road leading from Chora to Elies. The area, known as Damos, meaning “Demos” or “Municipality”, is identified with an ancient settlement that developed on the wedge-shaped area between the ravines of Drapetis to the west and Sykomeria to the east. According to the archaeological evidence, the settlement experienced particular prosperity from the Early Hellenistic to the Late Roman period. Excavations in the area have revealed part of the ancient settlement, including a paved stepped road, along both sides of which houses and workshops were developed, as well as rock-cut wells and a large number of finds. To the north of the settlement, a section of an isodomic wall survives, which formed part of its fortifications. Ancient rock-cut tombs and part of the ancient necropolis have also been identified in the wider area.
