Το Μουσείο ιδρύθηκε το 1965, από τον Ευγένειο Σπαθάρη και περιλαμβάνει συλλογές του πατέρα του και δικές του, ελληνικές και ξένες, χρονολογούμενες από το 1947. Υπάρχουν επίσης βιβλία, ελληνικά και ξενόγλωσσα, αφιερωμένα στο θέατρο Σκιών-Μαριονέτας και Κουκλοθέατρο, καθώς και αφίσες, προγράμματα, δημοσιεύσεις σε εφημερίδες και περιοδικά. Το “Σπαθάρειο Μουσείο Θεάτρου Σκιών” θα φιλοξενήσει αναδρομική έκθεση φιγούρας και υλικό του Ελληνικού Θεάτρου Σκιών, από το 1860 μέχρι σήμερα.
Σκοπός του Μουσείου είναι να αναπτύξει τον εκπαιδευτικό του χαρακτήρα, να κάνει δηλαδή ευρύτερα γνωστές και να διδάξει ακόμη στους νέους, την ιστορική εξέλιξη και τις διάφορες φάσεις της τέχνης αυτής του λαϊκού παραδοσιακού μας θεάτρου, του Θεάτρου Σκιών.
Μερικά από τα σημαντικότερα εκθέματα του Μουσείου είναι:
– Η κλασσική φιγούρα του Καραγκιόζη. Σχεδιαστής ο Ευγένιος Σπαθάρης. Η πρώτη έγχρωμη φιγούρα, κατασκευάστηκε το 1920.
– Ασπρόμαυρες φιγούρες του παραδοσιακού Θεάτρου Σκιών (περίοδος 1900-1930).
– Έγχρωμες φιγούρες διαφόρων τύπων του Θεάτρου Σκιών,
– Μερικά από τα εκθέματα του Μουσείου: α) Οδύσσεια, β) Περσέας και Ανδρομέδα, γ) Ηρακλής, δ) Ο Δαίδαλος και ο Ικαρος, ε) Ο Θησέας και ο Μινώταυρος.
Spathareion Museum of the Shadow Theatre
The Museum was founded in 1965 by Eugene Spatharis and includes his own and his father’s collections, dating from 1947. There are also Greek and foreign-language books on the shadow theatre, and the puppet theatre, as well as posters, programmes, press cuttings. The Meseum will house a retrospective exhibition of figures and accessories of the Greek shadow theatre from 1860 to the present.
The Museum’s aim is to develop its educational character, that is to make the subject more widely known to the general public and to inform the younger generation about the various phases and historical development of this art of the Greek traditional and folk theatre.
Some of the most important exhibits of the museum are:
– The classical figure of Karaghiozis, drawn by Eugene Spatharis. The first coloured figure was created in 1920.
– Black and white figures of the traditional Shadow Theatre of the period 1900-1930.
– Coloured shadow theatre figures of various types.
– Some of the exhibits of the Museum: a) the Odyssey, b) Perseus and Andromeda, c) Heracles, d) Daedalus and Icarus and e) Theseus and the Minotaur.
