Το Βυζαντινό Μουσείο Διδυμοτείχου θέτει στο επίκεντρο της εκθεσιακής του αφήγησης το δίπολο Θράκη-Διδυμότειχο, παρουσιάζοντας μέσα από επιλεγμένα αντικείμενα τον ρόλο που διαδραμάτισαν στην ιστορία της βυζαντινής αυτοκρατορίας. Παράλληλα η έκθεση αναδεικνύει και την πολυπολιτισμικότητα της περιοχής, εστιάζοντας στον τρόπο ζωής και στις συνήθειες των ανθρώπων που την κατοίκησαν κατά τους νεότερους χρόνους.
Το Μουσείο παρουσιάζει την ιστορία του Διδυμοτείχου σε μια παράλληλη αφήγηση ξεκινώντας από τον 2ο αι. μ.Χ. όταν ιδρύθηκε στον λόφο της Αγίας Πέτρας η Πλωτινόπολη από τον αυτοκράτορα Τραϊανό. Οι επισκέπτες θα γνωρίσουν πως το Διδυμότειχο ήταν μία από τις σημαντικότερες πόλεις του Βυζαντίου και αποτέλεσε σε διάφορες περιόδους διοικητική και στρατιωτική βάση της Βυζαντινής Αυτοκρατορίας.
Έγινε πρωτεύουσα του Βυζαντίου τρεις φορές και είναι το μέρος όπου διάλεξε να στεφθεί αυτοκράτορας ο Ιωάννης Καντακουζηνός διαδεχόμενος τον Ανδρόνικο Γ ‘.

Byzantine Museum of Didymoteicho
The main objective of the exhibition of the Byzantine Museum of Didymoteicho is to present two main geographical areas, Thrace and Didymoteicho, and their role in the history of the Byzantine Empire through selected objects. In parallel, the exhibition highlights the multicultural identity of the region, focusing on the lifestyle and the habits of the residents in Modern times.
The Museum presents the history of Didymoteichos in a parallel narrative starting from the 2nd century. A.D. when Plotinopolis was founded on the hill of Agia Petra by the emperor Trajan. Visitors will learn that Didymoteicho was one of the most important cities of Byzantium and was in various periods an administrative and military base of the Byzantine Empire.
It became the capital of Byzantium three times and is the place where John Kantakuzenos chose to be crowned emperor succeeding Andronikos III.
