Το κτίριο σχεδιάστηκε από τον αρχιτέκτονα Stuart M. Shaw του Μητροπολιτικού Μουσείου Τέχνης της Νέας Υόρκης και οικοδομήθηκε με πρωτοβουλία της Αμερικανικής Σχολής Κλασικών Σπουδών (1939 – 1955). Το μουσείο πρωτοάνοιξε για το κοινό το 1955. Η βόρεια πτέρυγα προστέθηκε το 1960 – 61. Το μουσείο ανακαινίστηκε κατά τα έτη 2014-2015. Η νέα, ανακαινισμένη μόνιμη έκθεσή του εγκαινιάστηκε στις 6 Ιουλίου 2024 και περιλαμβάνει πέντε αίθουσες και τμήμα της κεντρικής αυλής.
Περιλαμβάνει τις εξής αίθουσες:

– Α’ Αίθουσα: Η αρχιτεκτονική του Ιερού των Μεγάλων Θεών

– Β’ Αίθουσα: Αρχαία πόλη, Νεκροπόλεις

– Γ’ Αίθουσα: Η είσοδος στο Ιερό

– Δ’ Αίθουσα: Μύηση και Αναθήματα

– Ε’ Αίθουσα: Η πολιτιστική τροχιά του νησιού

– Αίθριο: Επιγραφική μαρτυρία

Archaeological Museum of Samothrace
The building was designed by the architect Stuart M. Shaw, of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and built by the American School of Classical Studies at Athens in the years 1939-1955. The north wing was added later, in 1960-61. The museum was renovated in 2014-2025. The new permanent exhibition was inaugurated in July the 5th of 2024. It consists of five halls and part of thw central courtyard.

The museum consists of these halls:

– Hall A: The architecture of the Sancturary of the Great Gods

– Hall B: Ancient City, Nekropoleis

– Hall C: The entrance to the Sanctuary

– Hall D: Initiation and offerings

– Atrium: Epigraphic evidence
