Το Μουσείο ιδρύθηκε στο πλαίσιο του ανασκαφικού προγράμματος του Πανεπιστημίου της Καλιφόρνιας στο Berkeley, χάρη στη γενναιοδωρία του κ. Rudolph A. Peterson.

Το Μουσείο δωρήθηκε στο Ελληνικό Κράτος και εγκαινιάσθηκε το 1984.

Στις συλλογές περιλαμβάνονται:

– Συλλογή απόψεων της Νεμέας από περιηγητές – επισκέπτες του 18ου και 20ου αιώνα,

– Συλλογή νομισμάτων αρχαίων επισκεπτών της Νεμέας,

– Συλλογή αντικειμένων σχετικά με αθλητικές δραστηριότητες της Νεμέας,

– Προϊστορικά ευρήματα (κεραμικά, εργαλεία, όπλα κ.τ.λ.) από προϊστορικές θέσεις στην περιοχή Νεμέας,

– Συλλογή αγγείων και κοσμημάτων από το μυκηναϊκό νεκροταφείο στα Αηδόνια και από τον οικισμό στην Αγία Ειρήνη,

– Συλλογή αρχιτεκτονικών μελών μνημείων αρχαιολογικού χώρου και άλλων θέσεων,

– Συλλογή Επιγραφών (Νεμέας, Φλιούντος, Πετρί).

Archaeological Museum of Nemea

The museum was constructed as part of the excavation project carried out by the University of California at Berkeley, thanks to the generosity of Mr. Rudolph A. Peterson. It was dedicated and presented formally to the Greek State on May 28, 1984. The entrance is located on the west side. The foyer opens on a courtyard, opposite the entrance, and on the main exhibition hall.

The museum contains a collection of pictures of Nemea by travellers of the 18th and 20th centuries, coins of ancient visitors to Nemea, items related to the athletic activity on the site, prehistoric finds (pottery, tools, weapons etc.) from sites in the district of Nemea, pottery and jewellery from the Mycenaean cemetery at Aidonia and the settlement of Aghia Eirene, architectural parts from monuments at Nemea and other sites, and a collection of inscriptions from Nemea, Phlius and Petri.
