In the monastery's catholicon today, four portable icons are preserved in iconostasis: of Saint Nicholas, the Infant Virgin Mary, enthroned Christ and Saint John, all works by the Athenian painter John Athanasios (18th century). Also preserved are the small icons of the dodecahorto as well as the portable image of the Great High Priest on the south wall of the catholicon. During the period of Turkish rule and the revolution of 1821, the flourishing (men's) Monastery of Agios Nikolaos was a place of refuge and accommodation for those persecuted by the Turks. This activity exhausted her financially and left her in debt. But in 1833 the newly established Greek state issued a royal decree not only did not recognize the offer of the monastery but decided to dissolve it and sell its property. Until 1966 the monastery was completely abandoned. From the year 1966, it was re-established as a women's Monastery, which operates until today.
