The Archaeological Museum of Kalymnos is located in Pothia and houses archaeological finds that highlight the island’s long history and cultural development, from prehistoric to post-Byzantine times. The Museum includes the Prehistoric Collection, with pottery, figurines and tools from the Neolithic, Minoan and Mycenaean periods, as well as the Classical Collection, which includes pottery, inscriptions, figurines and sculptures, mainly from the Hellenistic period. A special section is the reconstruction of the interior of a 19th-century mansion, where the dining room, sitting room, storage areas and servants’ rooms have been arranged, while the photographic archive of the Vouvális residence is also presented. The Museum also houses the Vouvális Private Archaeological Collection, with pottery, lamps and small objects, mainly from the Hellenistic period. Among the most important exhibits is the famous “Lady of Kalymnos”, an impressive bronze statue from the Hellenistic period.
